This is Us: A Mansfield History Project

Historic preservation is more than just the places and events important to the City’s past. It’s also about the experiences of the people who live here.  In 2020, Mansfield celebrate the 130th anniversary of the City’s  incorporation.  To mark this milestone, we want to know YOUR stories about life in Mansfield.  Tell us about your experiences in Mansfield:  growing up, going to school, working or simply living here. 

WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR STORY? 

ONLINE

We may share your history through our city website, social media and educational videos. 

EXHIBITS

We may display your historic artifacts at one of our city facilities or the Mansfield Historical Museum and Heritage Center on Main Street. 

ARCHIVES

We may record you stories, photos, etc. in the City’s preservation collection and the Mansfield Historical Museum archive.

WHAT WOULD WE LIKE TO KNOW?

Here are some of the things we’d like to learn about:

  1. How did you and/or your family come to live in Mansfield?
  2. Have you ever worked in Mansfield? Where, when and what was your experience?
  3. Where have you lived in Mansfield? How have the neighborhoods changed over the year?
  4. What kind of games did you play growing up?
  5. What was your favorite thing to do for fun in Mansfield?
  6. Do you have memories of special events, activities, or festivals throughout the years?
  7. Do you remember any fads from your youth? Popular hairstyles? Clothes? 
  8. Do you have any local family history stories to share?
  9. Did you attend school in Mansfield and what was it like?
  10. What places in Mansfield did you like to visit? Are those places still there? 

HOW TO PARTICIPATE: 

Write your story and submit it with the completed form. Stories may be submitted in one of the following ways:

  1. Drop your story off in person at the Planning Department at City Hall, the Mansfield Public Library or the Mansfield Historical Museum.
